Question One: What is the monthly subscription price of Warhammer Online? Answer: In North America, this issue is closed: Warhammer Online will cost $14.99 a month. In Europe, it seems that no one knows how much the monthly subscription price for Warhammer Online is going to be. There have been various statements regarding pricing, but they are all contradictory, and made by various companies who may, or may not, be in charge of setting these prices. Oh, how the forces of Chaos must be loving this one.Â
Here's the skinny: WAR is being developed by Mythic Entertainment, and published in the US by megacorp EA. In the EU, it's being published by a company called GOA, which is, in turn, a subsidiary of a French telecomunications firm. Other companies we've never heard of - KOCH, Wanadoo - are also involved (somehow) in publishing the game. To make things even more confusing, a company named Indigo Pearl is handling PR in Europe. Along with EA, and maybe some others. Nobody seems to know for sure.  Â
Initially, the subscription prices were odd: £10.31 a month in the UK? £10.31 is quite an odd number, and a bit expensive. This may have been based on a simple dollars to pounds conversion, and published prematurely by one of the many companies indicated above. Since that time, several of the other companies have also discussed subscription prices, none of which agree with each other. Â
A statement by GOA was forthcoming, however, and they've indicated that pricing will be sorted out, and confirmed, early next week. RockPaperShotgun (an excellent gaming blog, btw!) have looked into this matter a couple of times. Their tongue-in-cheek conclusion? "...it seems WAR needs some sort of UN body to manage the various factions, allowing them to communicate with each other, before the game gets exclusively released..." Â
