The NPD Sales Charts are out, and of the top 10 games selling in the US, five - FIVE - of them are published by Blizzard Entertainment. Have a peek:
1. WoW: Battle Chest
2. The Sims 2 Double Deluxe
3. World Of Warcraft
4. Nancy Drew: The Phantom Of Venice
5. Spore Creature Creator
6. Diablo Battle Chest
7. Warcraft III Battle Chest
8. WoW: Burning Crusade
9. The Sims 2 Ikea Home Stuff
10. Call of Duty 4
There's a bit more to this than is immediately obvious. The numbers of each of the individual Blizzard products are certainly good, but notice two things. One, many of the titles are, in fact, repeats/variants of each other. The WoW Battle Chest, Burning Crusade, and good ol' basic WoW are all, obviously, variants of Blizzard's MMO. Warcraft III is six years old, and Diablo II was published more than 8 years ago.
Blizzard isn't just dominating current PC sales charts, they're doing it with old games, and they've somehow managed to fill 3 of the top ten spots with the variations of the same game. That's utter dominance, friends.
On that note, when this news first broke, we heard a faint wailing sound. We looked around, and discovered it was the sound of other pc game developers weeping.
