Boy Scouts Get Video Game Badge? Holy $#*^ Really?!

Looks like little nerdy little boys are going to be lining up for Cub Scouts soon enough! Well, maybe not. But either way, this is pretty awesome. The Boy Scouts of America have a new badge for the cub scouts.

How do you attain such a badge?

Explain why it is important to have a rating system for video games. Check your video games to be sure they are right for your age.

With an adult, create a schedule for you to do things that includes your chores, homework, and video gaming. Do your best to follow this schedule.

Learn to play a new video game that is approved by your parent, guardian, or teacher.

Erhm, Oh. So THAT’S how you get it. Doesn’t sound as fun as I thought originally, but still very responsible and I’m much more likely to qualify for that then the Automotive Maintenance badge.

Street Fighter High – High School Drama in Fighter Form

High School dramas are hilariously common these days. They are all pretty pain-inducing. As such, it’s hilarious to see Street Fighter in the common High School drama. Enter the fan-made High School drama Street Fighter High.

It’s pretty much exactly as it sounds. The music and dialogue are laughably cheesy. All your favorite characters make an appearance and fear not, there are indeed battles… And cheerleaders. Can’t have High School drama without those. Check it.

Although it’s not exactly recent, I think this is the moment when I finally realized how big Avatar really is. I know, I know… It broke sales records everywhere and made boatloads of money, but that’s really nothing in comparison to the social effect it’s having, apparently.

Here we have some Palestinian protesters who dressed up as Na’vi during one of their demonstrations. Geeks come in all colors.

“They equated their struggle to the intergalactic one portrayed in the film.”

A Modern Warfare Tribute – IRL

The fact that there are gamers out there putting this much dedication into side-projects is awesome. This is basically a fan-made movie tribute to Modern Warfare titled Frozen Crossing.

It’s a live-action mission of Modern Warfare made into B-movie form. It runs at under 8 minutes, but is action-packed and filled with cheese. It’s a good cheese though, and gets your 80ies action movie blood pumping.

Their effects in the video are also pretty impressive, and the whole thing was made for $209.42. Which is surprising and commendable given the quality. Check it out.

It proves that from the womb we are wild beasts requiring nurturing and taming in order to become functional adults….or that we’re just really imaginative.

Well, it’s decided. I’ve found my next vehicle. Meet the geek-made street legal V8-powered Colonial Viper. We’re sure it’s creation will be for the benefit of all the colonies!

We can thank Dean Shorey for this beautiful creation. He’s a fan of the original series and while he’s not building star-fighters is working as a ride mechanic for an Amusement Park in Rochester, NY. Not only does this sound like the origin story for a super villain, it also sounds like an awesome road trip.

The vehicle was constructed from parts of multiple different cars and unfortunately is cursed with no A/C. We assume laser cannons aren’t included. Either way, it looks great and I want to take it for a cruise.

So say we all!

Pokemon Bus – The Ride of Kings?

I don’t think there would be anything cooler then showing up to work on Monday with this baby.

It was apparently designed to help Japanese kids want to get on the bus and head to school in the morning, whether or not that was successful I’m unsure. It has been successful in getting American adolescent males interested though, that’s for sure.

I always thought Peeps were a little too much for me. They’re clad in nearly impenetrable sugary armor and have enough sweetness to put me into a diabetic coma… But look at them! They’re adorable… Right?!

I do have to admit that they’re even more cool when turned into a set of Mario Brothers. The whole thing was setup by the Washington Post, as they have an annual contest using Peeps. Weird.

Zombies Invade Australia – For Game Ratings?

Last year there was a cosplay event in outburst against the lack of an Adult video game rating, causing lots of great titles to be axed from availability on the great continent of Kangaroos. It’s unfortunate, as it’s a lot of great titles we take for granted here, Like Fallout 3. I guess child slavery, nuclear detonation of a city, and lumbering super mutants aren’t the Australian Government’s style. For whatever the reason there is not a better rating system, nerds in Australia aren’t taking it quietly.

They decided to dress up like zombies and march Sydney’s Hyde Park, again. It was a small invasion, with 500 of them attending. It was a grand time, apparently including music and beer. Which… I actually didn’t think Zombies would enjoy too much. Hopefully it will draw some attention to their cause for the better.

Saturn’s Icy Moon Proves Pac-Man is Real.

The Cassini spacecraft, which is flying in outer-space right now taking pictures of the Saturn Moon Mimas, took some temperature pictures recently and discovered Pac-Man has been hiding there all along. Even Scientists think it’s weird;

Other moons usually grab the spotlight, but it turns out Mimas is more bizarre than we thought it was. It has certainly given us some new puzzles.

There’s a lot more technical talk to go along with why they think it looks like this, but does it matter? It’s clearly Pac-Man going for a power-up.
