This is just a reminder that Wandering Goblin will be officially going offline this weekend.  This paves the way for our new project, Cool-O-Rama.  While Wandering Goblin has been a fun ride, we’re hoping Cool-O-Rama will be  just as much fun, and will simultaneously allow us to actually pay the bills.  (Hey, we can dream, can’t we?)

So we’re going to try something new, and that something new is Cool-O-Rama.  Cool-O-Rama is, in many ways, a lot like Wandering Goblin.  For one, it’s run by the same editors, Acea, Deirdre, Kristoff, and myself.  Just like we do now, we’ll continue to hunt down the geekiest stories we can find, and bring them to you, our readers.  However, Cool-O-Rama is a much more grandiose idea.  With Cool-O-Rama, we’re forming partnerships with other very cool blogs; it’s all  in an attempt for us to be heard above the din of all the well financed, very prominent, very vapid big media sites that now dominate the web.  The benefit for out partner blogs is that they get a lot more exposure than they could ever get on their own.  The benefit for you, the reader, is that Cool-O-Rama gathers content from all over the internet, and brings it all together in one convenient, fun to read place.

In about a week, we’re going to shut Wandering Goblin down, and anyone visiting WG will be redirected to Cool-O-Rama.  We hope you, the 2500 of you faithful readers that visit us each day, will stay with us during the change-over.

There’s a quirky (and not very subtle) viral campaign for Iron Man floating around, and it’s interesting and well-done.  It’s about the “Stark Expo 2010“, which showcases Stark technologies and how they’ll impact the world.  The site has a 1950s world’s fair feel to it, with marching band music and other whatnot. The entry site has a lot of interactivity to it, and is worth checking out on its own.

The site also appears to be a gateway to ongoing viral ads for Iron Man 2.  For example, today we found out there is a  new page off the main site is about a Stark subsidiary.  It’s all about “AccuTech”, a company under the Stark Industries umbrella.  They’re making — you guessed it — protective armored suits for rescue workers and first responders.

I can’t claim to have found everything on the Stark Expo 2010 site, so feel free to poke around.  If you find anything interesting, let us know if the comments so we can all play, ok?

Oh, enough with the screaming like a little girl.  I’ve just never, ever seen a trailer for an upcoming movie with this much gore in it.  Using limbs as a propeller, attaching them to your head so you can fly?  Having your skull emerge gleefully from the torn flesh that was your face?  An otherwise pretty young Japanese girl who is both Frankenstein and a homicidal samurai?

Actually, come to think of it, I may just pay $12 to see this one.

This year, an overworked bartender faced a throng of SXSW partygoers and, without provocation, received some help from Bill Murray.  Bill just jumped behind the bar and started pouring tequilas.  It didn’t matter what you ordered, you got a tequila.

Of course, there’s some shakey-cam footage of this awesome moment, so watch and laugh.

While this may appeal to some people, I’d argue this isn’t all that big of a deal.  You still have to pay full price for the phone, you just don’t have a contract with the phone provider.  Functionally, this means that you could quit using AT&T whenever you wanted.  And then you’d have an iPhone that was connected to….well, nothing.  And, because of hardware limitations, you can’t used your iPhone on a competing network.  So, contract or not, you have to do business with AT&T.

Why is AT&T and Apple doing this?  Probably to move this aging inventory out the door.  What’s going to replace it?  Our guess is it’s going to be the iPhone 4G, and that’ll drop this summer.
