It’s not everyday that there is a fashion accessory that strikes the fancy of this Star Wars geek. Everything out there in the retail world is either masculine or cute (i.e my awesome Yoda backpack that I love!) and not made for taking out on a shopping date with the girls.

Until now. Ladies pay attention.

Meet the R2D2 and Yoda tote bags. Great for shopping with your less-geeky gal friends or lunch with the boss. Up close they’re quite obviously the coolest bags this side of Dagobah, but from a distance, they’re quite chic.

You can pre-order both totes from the Star Wars shop for $17.99 USD but they won’t ship until March 31, sadly.

Law firm demands retailer destroy all copies of Olivia Munn comic, retailer refuses

I was like, what?! How could this be? But it’s the truth. Here’s the letter requesting that HeavyInk remove a parody comic about Olivia Munn from their virtual shelves (click on image for a redirect to HeavyInk’s post):

I myself immediately headed over to Olivia Munn’s official site, thinking that she might have something up on the subject. And to my surprise, what did I find? NOTHING!!!! Her lawyers probably want her to remain silent on the subject, which would make complete sense. But still, it would be nice to see how she feels about the whole thing.

For the whole scoop from HeavyInk’s POV, head to their link.

For more on the subject, checkout BoingBoing, they’re on it like flies on….well, you know.

I’ve always been fond of the whole steampunk thing. I could never tell why, but I think it’s not as complicated as I thought. It’s all about the cogs. I like cogs on everything and now I can have a cog ring.

Kinekt’s creator, Glen Liberman, has always been fascinated and inspired by small mechanisms and their complementary movements. With this interest in mind, the concept was envisioned for the Gear Ring, a product “complex enough to play with, yet simple enough to wear”.

The ring is made out of stainless steel and it actually works using six micro-precision gears that turn when the outer rim is spun.

Check out the video:

Kinekt Design’s Gear Ring from Glen Liberman on Vimeo.

Sadly, the ring only comes in man sizes, or, if you’re a woman with man hands, you could potentially own this beauty for about $165.00 (US). I have no idea if the designer is going to release womens sizes or if there are going to be other designs. I could imagine seeing this ring in a really nice brass finish. I’d buy!

This time, at Punxsutawney Phil, the Groundhog who specializes in letting us know when it’s okay to plant some daisies without risk of a cold frost (also known as Spring). Ok, maybe they’re not throwing stones at Phil per se, but they are requesting that he be replaced by a robot.

Wait. What??

A robot?

Gemma Vaughan, an Animals in Entertainment Specialist with PETA, penned a letter to the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club on Wednesday arguing that keeping Phil on display year-round is a “cruel” way to treat the animal. Blah….Blah…Blah!

“Make the compassionate decision to use an animatronic Phil and retire the live groundhogs who are used for Groundhog Day activities to a sanctuary,” Vaughan wrote in the plea. “Tradition is no excuse for cruelty.”

Bill Deeley, president of the Club, has called the request “crazy.”

“Phil is probably treated better than the average child in Pennsylvania,” Deeley said. “He’s got air conditioning in the summer, his pen is heated in winter … He has everything but a TV in there. What more do you want?”

PETA wants a groundhog, who can see his shadow, to be replaced by a robot that will have to be programmed to sense it’s shadow??? They’re so lame.

PETA? Go away. Please?

Here’s a very entertaining video on the subject:

Space Aliens are using puppies as a form of communication with Earthlings. In 2003, Pixie, a Siberian Husky, gave birth to a litter of puppies. Six of the pups were normal, the seventh was sent as a message from aliens.

RIDDLE, Oregon – Debra Ashdown was a little blue when one of her new puppies came out green. Ashdown’s Siberian husky, Pixie, had a litter of seven pups. The first six looked normal but the seventh had green fur. The Riddle, Oregon, woman was so worried about the strange looking little dog, she took it to the vet. But Dr. Alan Ross assured her the green puppy wasn’t a critter from Mars. He says the puppy’s fur was stained by naturally occurring fluids in utero. Ross says the green tinge will fade with time.

That was one wild pup for a while. Sadly, it sounds as if he grew out of his cool green color and became a mediocre husky like his parents.

Pixie’s pup is not alone in the world though. Being as we ignorant Earthlings ignored the message that the Martians were trying to send us, they again sent us another message in the form of a green Golden Retriever pup back in 2005. When are we going to listen people???? The Martians are trying to tell us something and they’re using random green puppies to tell us that we must go “green” in order to save our planet. Maybe.

Before you die it’s often advised that one should pick their final resting place….so that you can enjoy it in the afterlife. That sounds so odd. However, it is advised and I shall take such advise.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m going to get cremated. Yeah, yeah, yeah I hear those of your screaming at me, “don’t do it, you’re ruining the environment by leaving the biggest carbon footprint of all…..” Well, death will completely put me in debt, so I’d rather go the cheapo way and “being green” will most likely be the last thing on my mind.

Anywhooooo, when my ashes come home from wherever they spent their vacation. I’m requesting to be put into one of these beauties:

From the Los Angeles Times article:

Funerary urns come in all forms these days, from small keepsake matching sets for easy division among relatives to large sculpture that can contain the whole family — three or four people, all together.

“Each piece is like a person,” said Maureen Lomasney, who runs the Sonoma County gallery Art Honors Life, specializing in funerary vessels. “It’s like you’re at a party. Some people have lampshades on their heads, some are talking very seriously, some are just posing, beautiful and elegantly. They can be whimsical, stately, charming. Each has character.”

These urns come from a site called Funeria.com and there’s more to choose from if any of these strike your fancy. And truly, shouldn’t you enjoy where you’re going to be “put”. I’m a huge fan of the old school vending machine. I may invest in it. If anyone wants some of my cremains, it’ll be 25 cents! Or perhaps I will choose a more subdued Death Star urn.

I’ve heard of iPhones doing the most awesome things, but never saving a mans life. Heck, it took me across the country and back, visiting weird things along the way. I no longer believe in maps, I believe in iPhone!

Anyway, back to the story.

Sitting with his wife, Christina, in Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital, Dan Woolley showed the notebook to TODAY’s Meredith Vieira via satellite hookup Tuesday. Trapped for 65 hours under tons of wreckage in the lobby of his hotel by Haiti’s Jan. 12 earthquake and knowing he could die, Woolley had written notes to his two young boys and his wife.

I’m pretty sure I’d be too busy screaming and wasting precious oxygen to write any notes. However, the next time I’m stuck in an elevator shaft after a horrendous earthquake, I’ll be sure to keep this man’s story in mind.

Woolley had taken refuge in an elevator shaft, where he used an iPhone first-aid app to treat a compound fracture of his leg and a cut on his head. He had already used his digital SLR camera’s focusing light to illuminate his surroundings, and taken pictures of the wreckage to help find a safe place to wait to be rescued — or to die.

Ok, looking up that app now.

And thanks to the iPhone first-aid app he’d downloaded, he knew how to fashion a bandage and tourniquet for his leg and to stop the bleeding from his head wound. The app also warned him not to fall asleep if he felt he was going into shock, so he set his cell phone’s alarm clock to go off every 20 minutes.

And then for 65 hours, he waited for whatever fate had in store for him.

Woolley attributes his survival and rescue by a French rescue team to divine providence.

FRENCH RESCUE TEAM???!!!! That’s crap!!! It was the iPhone gods that saved him!!!! Everyone know’s the truth!!!

While we don’t do the Cute Pic Of The Day daily, it doesn’t mean we don’t have one. I guess it would’ve been better to name it the Cute Pic Of The Month, or maybe Cute Pic Of The Decade. We might as well title it that, as we never really put cute pics up anyway. This is a geek site, remember?

After that most confusing paragraph, here’s the pic in question:

This pic is so full of Awwwwwe, it’s not even funny! Where can I get one of these?

Attention all Geeks! Star Wars themed Adidas merchandise has become available to those with tons of cash!

Make your way to the nearest Adidas store!!!

There are a few styles to choose from. Among them, Leia, as seen below, Skywalker, seen above. The master of Jedi mischief, Yoda. An awesome, hard to keep clean, Stormtrooper pair and of course everyone’s favorite bad dude, Vader and many more! Check all the pics here.

This preview of the upcoming adidas Originals x Star Wars Collection, will surely have sneaker heads, and “Star Wars” addicts anticipating the release. Here, we get a sneak peek at the first offerings in the collection which includes Darth Vader, Skywalker, Stormtrooper, Princess Leia, and Yoda sneakers, as well as a Star Wars tee and Stormtrooper hoodie. Each sneaker uses elements from the popular “Star Wars” characters’. Look for the collection to drop at adidas retailers in January 2010.

These by far make it to the coolest street/geek gear list. I think those Leia ones are calling my name. I have nothing to wear them with but I’ll look good at Comic Con.

All gear will be available Spring/Summer 2010 at an Adidas store near you.
