If there was ever a movie that generated a lot of geek gossip, it’s Captain America. Cap is an iconic character (though really not as popular as some other Marvel characters), and the film seems to be repeatedly stalled by his status as an icon. In particular, the search for the perfect actor to play Captain America himself is taking forever. Ah well, such is Hollywood.
It seems that now, however, they’ve found the perfect actor to play Red Skull, Cap’s arch enemy. According to Slashfilm, Hugo Weaving is in final talks to play the ultimate super-Nazi. According to a mini-poll I took here at the Wandering Goblin offices, Hugo is a simply awesome choice. Remember, he was the very embodiment of evil in the Matrix films – as Agent John Smith – and he simply nailed that role.
Although it’s not quite finalized, we’re hoping they follow through with this. Captain America is slated to appear in as many as nine future films (both solo, and in the upcoming Avenger movies, etc), so having Hugo along, adding a bit of punch to those movies, sounds like a great idea.
