Crappy Rare Nintendo Game Fetches $40,000

The title says it all… Nearly. Here we have Stadium Events, a game from your childhood that you may or may not be familiar with. A lucky gent recently discovered this NES goldmine and that not only did he own this ultra rare game, but that he owned an unopened copy.

It’s rarity comes from it’s scarcity, not it’s awesomeness. There are apparently only around 2000 copies of this baby in existence, as it was created by Bandai which Nintendo then purchased. Apparently after the purchase, most copies of the game and the required game-mat were destroyed, hence the $41,300 someone recently fetched on E-bay. For me, I love picture this as a dramatic event in some distance secret warehouse with a large fire, however it probably wasn’t so cool.

The seller apparently never opened it because he didn’t have the game-mat. Go figure.

So what’s the moral of this story? Well, either hope that stadium-events-big-win_300you also have an unopened copy of Stadium Events. Or you could hope that one of your unopened games goes through a corporate buyout problem and some dudes in a warehouse destroy all the other copies… Good luck!

I guess it just goes to show that hoarding nerds don’t always lose.
