Tron Legacy is the sequel to the 1980-something cult classic, Tron. You’ll probably remember that the people behind the film released an intriguing — some would say awesome — trailer this past summer, which built anticipation for the film. There was even a cool website. Then, apparently, the marketing people well all killed in a bus accident or went on strike or were all kidnapped by aliens or something. This film has had virtually zero promotion in months. Honestly, this one dropped rather completely off my radar, and I’m a fan of the flawed-but-still-quite-cool original. I assumed it was delayed, and we’d hear more at some point in the future.
Well, today is was revealed that Tron Legacy is to be released on December 17th. Since that’s a week away, the producers have decided it’s now time to release a tiny bit of art to promote the film. The poster, and one other pic, do look good. However, that’s a bit paltry since the film opens in mere days. They might want to make a couple of commercials or something, if they want anyone to buy tickets for this puppy.
Ok, ok, enough of me making fun of the suspiciously bizarre marketing strategy for Tron Legacy. Here’s a story synopsis the producers released with the two pics. I also embedded the trailer below, since it’s the only other thing we’ve seen on the film since frakkin’ July. ( <———– Whoops, that was me, making fun of the marketing department again!)
TRON: LEGACY is a 3D high-tech adventure set in a digital world that’s unlike anything ever captured on the big screen. Sam Flynn (GARRETT HEDLUND), the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn (JEFF BRIDGES), looks into his father’s disappearance and finds himself pulled into the digital world of Tron where his father has been living for 25 years. Along with Kevin’s loyal confidant Quorra (OLIVIA WILDE), father and son embark on a life-and-death journey of escape across a visually-stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.
[Edit: Upon closer inspection, the film is due to be released in 2010. That's the year two thousand and TEN, not two thousand and nine. That means that they have a whole year to promote the film. (Whoops, our bad.) Now, normally, we'd just take this post down and hang our heads in shame....but this mistake was so funny, we decided to keep it up and just laugh at ourselves!]

The film looks good, but it is suspicious that we haven’t seen ANYTHING since July. I wonder if they’re hiding something – like suckage.
Deirdre, I love your many geeky posts, but this one through me for a loop! Release Tron a day before Avatar??? Upon further investigation I found the Tron release date to be “appear in theaters on December 17, 2010″, which would be 372 days away. So still time for new trailers, schwag, and genral geek fighting over the inner workings of master controller…is he an ATI or nVidia guy? Discuss.
