In a highly surprising move, Disney has gone on to acquire Marvel for 4 billion dollars. Who would have thought that Tony Stark could be so easily purchased? Disney apparently made the move because they have always held a strong market in female audiences, but are looking to increase their revenue with boys in general. Buying some of the rights to some of the most famous superheroes would be a sure-fire way to do so.
Marvel has multiple pending contracts for movies with both Sony & Paramount including the Avengers movie, Iron Man 2, and 3 more new Spider-man movies. These deals are apparently going to be unaffected, as the original Marvel leadership will stay intact… We hope. Marvel has been doing so well with their movies lately like Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk that it’d be a shame to see Mickey Mouse and Captain American team up against the Red Skull.
Disney’s Chief Executive Robert Iger had this to say:
“On a conference call with investors, Iger said the deal will allow Disney to sell Marvel’s vast array of characters and properties across different media platforms and in many more markets. For instance, Iger said that Disney’s Pixar animation unit was excited about the opportunities that a Marvel acquisition could yield.”
Pixar using Marvel characters? Perhaps this will be interesting.. There’s a lot of opportunity here, either for better or for worse. Maybe Disney will give some advice to Marvel to keep dance scenes out of the next Spider-man movie. Only time will tell until we see if Marvel properties are going to be greatly affected… We’ll keep our eyes peeled!
