Ozzie Osbourne Rocks BlizzCon [Pics]

Ever see a night elf head bang?  I have.  I’ve also seen trolls and tauren dance, and bunches of orcs throw up the metal horns en masse.  My fellow gamer geeks, it seems, know how to rock.

Ozzie Osbourne has quite a quirky connection to Blizzard Entertainment.  I mean, the guy isn’t exactly known for his gaming skills.  But as every gamer worth his geek cred knows, Oz was featured in a commercial earlier this year for World of Warcraft.  He and the Lich King squared off with memorable / legendary / hilarious results, depending on your perspective.

As a result of this, Blizzard decided that Ozzie would be the perfect choice for the closing act of this year’s BlizzCon.   The con has a history of metal bands playing there (specifically, their in-house band, Level 80 Elite Tauren Chieftain), so that part was a natural fit.  Ozzie, once on stage, openly stated to the crowd that he didn’t know what to expect from this crowd of gamers.  He then proceeded to bang out hit after hit, much to the delight of the gathered geeks.  The concert, overall, was a huge hit; the hall was absolutely packed with fans.  The crowd was also openly enthusiastic.

Obviously, this wasn’t your typical Ozzie / Black Sabbath crowd.  A few notable quirks:  some folks attended in their cosplay costumes.  Others strapped murloc plushies to their heads, or got their geek on in other ways.  If you’ve ever wondered if a geek can play air guitar on his silicone Frostmourne facimile, let me answer that for you.  Oh, yeah, he can.

For those that wish to see the origin of the Ozzie-Blizzard connection, check out the vid that started it all:
