EVE Online Bank Robber Laughs to the Bank

Robberies in online game environments can apparently payout some pretty decent bucks in real life, that is if you’re into scamming your fellow players and breaking the rules of the game to do so. An EVE Online bank corporation was apparently used to steal upwards of 200 billion of in-game currency from players. The player who did the deed, Ricdic, was laughing his way to the bank as he used the exploitation to finance himself in real life to help out with real life problems he’s going through.

Ricdic wasn’t at all shy about his theft and like a Bond villain, let us know his whole diabolical plan;

“It was a very on the spot decision,” the married father of two explained in an interview.

He said a spam email for a black market website that traded online money for real cash popped up on his screen, prompting him to exchange the virtual cash for real money to cover a deposit on his house and expenses related to his son’s medical problems.

“I saw that as an avenue that could be taken, and I decided to skim off the top, you could say, to overcome real life (difficulties).”

After he stole the in-game currency, he sold it for $6,300(US) dollars. Not a bad little fetch there. Because he was experiencing hardship in real life and he didn’t technically use a glitch to steal the money, does it make this any less immoral? What do you think?

Whether you see him as a terrible thief or a clever saint, digital robberies are a whole let less entertaining then some cowboys storming a moving train. Where’s the dynamite?
