Holy Hand Grenade Causes Evacuation in London

It seems someone made themselves a replica of a classic comedy prop – the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch. Then they left it in an unusual spot, causing a bit of a panic.

Some water company maintenance men lifted up a fire hydrant cover, saw the heavily gilded object, and called police.  The area was cordoned off, people in the vicinity were evacuated, and the bomb disposal unit was called in to handle the problem.  Thankfully, at least one of the bomb squad guys has a sense of humor, and recognized the potential explosive for what it is – a prop from the classic Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Some local businesses complained – after all the HHGoA looks more like a Christmas ornament than an explosive.  They’d all lost business and suffered some inconvenience due to the scare, and they felt the police might have realized all this a bit earlier.  :)
