If you believe a recent Gamestop flyer, Starcraft II now has a very definitive release date: June 2nd. According to MTV blogger Tracey John, she (he?) stopped by his/her local Gamestop, and was shown a release schedule that includes the highly anticipated SCII with a hard release date. When Tracey asked a store employee about it, they confirmed that yes, June 2nd is the launch date of SCII.
I think you all know what this means. Yep, that’s right, Blizzard Entertainment has finally changed their long-standing and incredibly successful launch policy, and are now announcing hard release dates for their games four months in advance. Gone are the days in which ol’ Blizz worked on a game until it was near perfect, and then announced its release a week or so prior. Since they are now the most profitable company in all of gaming, it’s probably time to change the very policy that got them to the top. That policy was, obviously, too successful and too profitable.
Or maybe, just maybe, Gamestop made yet another mistake. They might not really know when SCII is going to launch, especially since 1) the game isn’t finished, and 2) Blizzard hasn’t announced a release date to anyone.
