There’s a bit of unorthodox news out there this morning that had us scratching our heads. Of course, without any hesitation, we brought these unconventional tales to you immediately.
- According to Sweden’s Youth Care Council, World of Warcraft is “the cocaine of the computer world”. An employee for the YCC is quoted as making the following oh-so-reasonable statement: “There is not a single case of game addiction that we have worked with in which World of Warcraft has not played a part.”
- Due largely to the popularity of Star Ocean: The Last Hope, the XBox 360 outsold both the Wii and the PS3 last month in Japan. Traditionally, the Japan has had a very strong aversion to the 360, and it generally comes in dead last among console sales. Star Ocean (a title I never heard of before today) must be one heck of a game.
- A lesbian was banned from XBox Live for being a lesbian. Well, it’s not for being a lesbian, exactly. It’s for telling people she was a lesbian. You can be any sexual orientation you want. But you’re not allowed to “create a gamertag or use text in other profile fields that include comments that look, sound like, stand for, hint at, abbreviate, or insinuate content of a potentially sexual nature”, according to the EULA. Hence, she was banned, and of course there’s controversy a-brewing about it.
- Action Comics #1 is up for auction tomorrow. The first comic book to feature Superman (in 1938) is expected to sell for $400,000. (On a side note, I’m not sure I could sell my house for that much.)
