Random MMO Tidbits

Here’s some Saturday afternoon tidbits;

  • The broad WoW comparisons continue as a new essay tries to draw a comparison between WoW and Darwin’s theory of evolution?! Being a better citizen, possibly being a religion, and now evolution? It looks like WoW covers all the major controversial topics, perhaps soon abortion will be drawn into the mix. You can read more on this here. The essay claims that the connecting lines can be drawn in respect to aspects of character specialization in certain classes, but that to really model evolution, a person would need hundreds of characters. You can check out the rest here.
  • Next up is writer Marv Wolfman who is a comic book writer working on the new DC Universe Online story. It’s also important to note that Wolfman is actually a real werewolf. Here’s a small rundown on the DCUO plot;

“Wolfman emphasized that the game is portraying the modern DC Universe. Readers of the currently-published comics will recognize the universe as one that feels up to date, rather than as an alternate version made for the game. “People reading the comics won’t find this to be an alien land,” he said. On the other hand, Wolfman doesn’t think people who don’t read the comics these days will find the game’s story hard to follow.”

  • Finally, although the economy is collapsing in on all sides, stock brokers are screaming as they have to pick up jobs at fast food chains, and the sun is beginning to be blocked out by massive accumulating world debts, NCSoft has reported that it did increase it’s sales for 2008, but in comparison to the year before, it still did show a loss of income.
