Online Gamer Pwned By $6000 Bill

Justin Cavanagh, a 29 year old gamer down in Australia was extremely excited to battle his friends online in a head-to-head duel of the popular WW2 title, Battleground Europe. Unfortunately for Justin, he was not aware that he’d exceed his data transfer rate of his monthly plan by over 38GB. Of course, when you exceed your monthly plan with his ISP, you are hit with a 15 cent per MB charge. To say the least, Justin was surprised to learn that his monthly bill reached a whopping $6041 for the overage charges.

Normally his ISP says they notify their customers with an e-mail to alert you when them when they are near their monthly bandwidth limit. Unfortunately for Justin, he never got that e-mail. As a gesture of good will, his provider, Telstra, waived his bill. This was of course, after a newspaper contacted them about the situation. Whew, thank goddness for him!

Now, I can only be glad that we don’t have the same kind of “rate” plans here in the States generally. If that was the case, it’d be safe to say that I would have demolished my wallet long ago as I angrily try to kill bubble-hearthing paladins and attempted to rid all the Warhammer servers of every living dwarf player. But what do you, as a gamer, think about the situation?

Either way,  we goblins are gonna have to nominate Justin for mullet of the year.

That’s utterly ridiculous. 15 cents per MB? I remember back when the internet was new bandwidth was expensive, but now it costs the ISP nothing. They are simply gouging their customers.

He exceeds his 60gb plan by another 38gb playing a game? Yeah right. Constantly downloading music, movies and manporn more like.
