Ah, yes… Downtime. It’s something that we all know and love. The unfortunate time where “life” has to step in and take us away from our beloved digital dimensions. Well, have no fear. For there is now a company out there that is claiming that they will actually pay you for your downtime in World of Warcraft. Server down? Terrible lag? Nuclear Holocaust? Well, assuming the company hasn’t been incinerated by the blast radius, they claim to cover that time you can’t play!
“YouPlayorWePay.com aims to compensate you with CASH for the problems MMORPG players know all too well: waiting queues, system outages and laggy game play. It doesn’t matter if you’re a level 10 Warlock or a level 70 Warrior. It doesn’t matter if you’re on a new realm with little population or an old realm with a high population! We aim to compensate you if you experience waiting queues, system outages or laggy game play.”
Wow, sounds great! How does it work? Read on to discover how…
Well, here’s an apparent breakdown of the compensation you’d receive for a standard level 80 character, these are based on server down time, high and/or max populations because of the lag they may cause as well;
Realm: Warsong
Time Down: 27 hours
Time At Max: 160 hours
Time At High: 267 hours
Compensation: $19.00
The average price users will pay based on the various characters they register and their levels is said to be around $5 or $6 dollars. Now it might seem that it’d be easy to milk this system for more then it’s worth, but the most you can be compensated is equal to 1.75-times your monthly fee to YouPlayOrWePay.com. Of course, this fee is on top of your normal monthly fee to World of Warcraft.
The whole situation seems slightly fishy, and is raising eyebrows as to its legitimacy. Whether or not its legitimate, we cannot say… But wait a second, the more important question here is… Why? Insurance for loss of virtual play time?! The fact that this is even being proposed is amazing and just goes to show how far gaming has really shoved its foot up the arse of the masses.
MMOs have really taken a huge step in the past years, and it’s only a manner of time until a suitable gaming machine will be required at every retirement home.
