Gamers Don’t Prefer Gore?

A new study that was released earlier this month has made the claim that gamers don’t actually prefer games with gore, and that violence is not actually the factor that gamers are drawn too while playing. Here’s their claim;

“The study by investigators at the University of Rochester and Immersyve Inc., a player-experience research firm, found that for many people, gore actually detracts from a game’s “fun factor,” decreasing players’ interest and desire to purchase a game. When designing the next generation of video games, added the authors, developers should remember: blood does not help the bottom line.”

It is true that it may not be violence in itself that draws gamers to certain titles and of course gameplay comes first. But it’s hard to deny the fact that people sometimes enjoy blowing the limbs off of a target with a grenade and that familiar smile falling over their face. Or let us not forget setting someone on fire. Oh, Age of Conan fatilities… How I enjoyed thee.
