Men Arrested Because of Playstation 3

In Copenhagen, they takes reports of gunshots being fired very, very seriously.

It seems that two men, aged 21, were playing an unnamed FPS game on their PS3 when some concerned neighbors feared that people were really shooting each other, and they called the police.  (The game was apparently being played very loudly.)  The police apparently responded with a full SWAT team, consisting of several vans full of fully-armed cops.  The two gamers were hauled out of their apartment until police could verify that no one was actually having a machine-gun fight.  Once they verified that the two were only playing a game, they were returned to their apartment.

Two things leap to mind, of course.  One, how stupid are the neighbors?  They honestly became worried that machine guns were being fired by the two young men living next door?  Really?  Two, did the two gamers just have to play with the volume turned up to 11?

As is our habit when it comes to foreign gaming stories, we found the Danish paper that was the original source for this story, and then used a web translation service to sort things out.  You know, because that always works out perfectly.  Here’s a snippet:

It appeared, however, that the profits came from a ‘deadly’ game on a Playstation, which was held at the apartment large flat screen with full percussion on the speakers.

The two players, a 21-year-old man and peers were not aware that they had caused great alarm, since the police with a megaphone called them out of the apartment and gave them the suspicion that had been shot with a sharp in the apartment.

The general requirements for the police greater visibility and rapid response to emergency calls were fully met early Saturday evening, as worried residents of a floor on housing Sandhusvej 31 in Valby near Copenhagen reported sharp shot from an apartment in the upturn.

The police took no unnecessary chances and came up with the whole cavalry in the form of several trailers group armed with machine-operated.

Apartment searched
- They told us the matter proper context, and after that we had searched the opportunity, as we always do in such situations, without finding weapons, the two men were allowed to return to the apartment, said the central vagtleder by the Copenhagen Police, John Hansen to ekstrabladet.dk.

He explains that people usually hang out of windows when the police turn up, but although the rest of the residents registered police presence injury, there was no response from the young men’s apartment, where the game flimrede on a flat screen.

- We did so what we call a ‘box’. That is, we isolated the property, ensuring possible escape routes and posts armed policemen relevant sites, so we have quite a grip on the property before we enter. But the two men came out nicely, as we called them in megaphones. After the many episodes shot last year, listening all the people after shots, and we have quite a job to sort through the many calls, many of which turn out to be fireworks, or otherwise. But we do not neglect reports of shots and moves out when it is rung after us, and tonight’s action illustrates quite well, “says a slightly smiling John Hansen to ekstrabladet.dk.
