Well, this story pretty much explains how it’s done.  It’s the story of Palela Alderson, who spends her time role-playing an escort online.  To absolutely no one’s surprise, she plies her wares in Second Life.

Palela engages in virtual sex with paying clients in SL, and she charges up to 3000 Linden Dollars for an evening (since SL allows RMT, that in-game fee translates to around $13 U.S.).  She says, however, she doesn’t do it to finance her in-game addiction to thigh-high boots or short dresses.  She does it because she gets a “thrill” out of it.  One “session” with Palela lasts about 3 hours.

In an interesting side note, Palela tried working as an escort in real life, but couldn’t bring herself to actually do it.  Fearing her family might find out, she’s limited herself to in-gaming whoring.
