Any geek with a pulse is looking forward to this one; in fact, The Watchmen movie is one of the most anticipated films of 2009.? Due for a March 6th release, the film is suddenly in jeopardy.? Why?? Because there’s a dispute between the studio that made the film (Fox) and one claiming they still hold the rights to make it (Warner Brothers).?

In a preliminary ruling, a judge has now sided with Warner Brothers, saying they do have some rights to distribute the film.? They’ve set a trial date of January 20th where, presumably, this whole mess will get hashed out. ?

Note the dirty trick played by Warner Brothers in this whole affair: they waited until the film was made by another studio before they raised a peep.? Why?? Well, this way, Fox made the film, paid for the entire production, and Warners gets to collect the profits.? Nice and ethical, huh?

Here’s hoping we still get to see this sweet baby in ‘09.
