Fans of the classic (and highly entertaining) PC game Dungeon Keeper will be happy to hear that this quirky and amusing title is finally going to be made into an MMO. They may not be so happy to hear that the game is going to be available in China only. Since the game was huge in the West, this is an odd development.
The official announcement comes via EA, who is apparently only licensing the art, characters, and other assets to a Chinese development house, NetDragon Websoft. EA has no plans to contribute to the game’s development beyond that, and has no plans to import the game to the West at all.
As if this story wasn’t already odd enough, we did a bit of digging, and couldn’t find any indication that Dungeon Keeper was a big title in China. In fact, we found no evidence it was ever even sold there. Thus we can only conclude one thing: whatever eldritch magic was afoot the day that NetDragon and EA struck this weird deal must have been potent indeed.
