How to Worry Swedish Children

According to The Local, Swedish researchers have found that Swedish children are worried about the online habits of their parents. Now normally, we hear plenty of stories about parents concerned about their childrens’ online behaviors, but this news report turns that concept on its head.

Of course, online gaming is featured rather prominently. In one example, a 13-year old complained to researchers that her mother spends huge amounts of time playing World of Warcraft.

I know it sounds ridiculous but my mother has started playing the computer game WoW, World of Warcraft,” wrote the 13-year-old.

“This summer she has been sitting up all day and all night and she forgets what’s important to me. And when she’s not at the computer she’s like a lost soul. She just looks straight ahead and says nothing. I’m not doing so well.”

Of course, it’s important to keep these things in perspective. While the WoW-obsessed mom may not win mother of the year, things could always be worse:

One 12-year-old girl called the organization to explain that she rarely got to speak to her mum anymore. Her mother spent most of her time sitting half naked in front of the computer and posting photos of herself on the internet, the girl said.

A note to parents: please stop doing weird, sick, bizarre things on the internet in front of your children. Thanks.

“My time online sometimes worries my children.? I cannot imagine why.”?
